"My job causes me to eat at random times and sit for prolonged periods.  What are the negative effects of eating this way, if any?  With such little usage of calories and energy throughout my day, my concern is that I will improperly balance what my body needs/doesn’t need?"

If you're a medical professional, military, law enforcement, (or even a parent for that matter!) who is forced to work random hours,  you'll want to listen to this!

"I want to enjoy the celebrations with friends and family, but I don’t want to do it SO much that I find myself having to make a ton of ground up by the first of the year..."

Sound familiar?  You wouldn't be alone if so...

It’s a great question and one we’ve built a strategy for that we outline here.  We also tackle questions like:
Why does the weight go up so much after 1 meal?”  Is there really that little margin?….and what do I do with that?
How do you account for stuff you didn’t make yourself in MFP?
How do you deal with the abundance of holiday office parties, family gatherings, etc.  Should I just skip?

It’s often recommended that athletes drink high doses of caffeinie as a way to improve performance….but…is there any truth to that?  Is it best practice- why or why not?

Lindsay and I dive into the topic- give the history, talk about what’s fact vs fiction, what ACTUALLY works, and give some examples that you might consider trying if this topic DOES interest you.

Without further ado- here’s the podcast.

"Do you HAVE to eat only chicken and broccoli for weight and performance goals?"

Would it be better to have small amounts of "real" ice cream or should I only have the low-fat, low-sugar, low........ versions?

These are common- and great questions- we get quite often.  This week Lindsay and I tackle these and a variety of topics related to it.  Including:
What are some basic, easy, but effective strategies to enjoy stuff I love.
What if I don't WANT to track my nutrition?
Will I have to track nutrition forever?
What's a strategy for maintaining my weight AFTER I've lost it OR keeping my weight after I've gained it for performance?
And MUCH more!

Exo Mtn Gear Death Hike Part Three- The lessons.

This week we talk to four veterans of the Exo Mtn Gear Death Hike and get their perspective on five topics:
How did you train?
How'd you tackle nutrition?
What gear did you use, love, and loathe?
What's your mindset when things get tough?
What did you learn/would you do differently?
One thing you'll most certainly find is that there are no similarities in each persons answer(s).

Death Hike Part Two- The training, nutrition, and gear used to prep us for Alaska this year (Gear lists linked below!)

We dive deep into the training aspect- not just reviewing what we did, but also talking through HIGH level things (like phasing and "periodization") that you can apply to your own training.

We chat through what worked well from a nutrition standpoint- and what didn't. How many calories did we take? How'd we space it out? And, a host of other topics that will help give you insight on how to fuel for an event like this in YOUR future.

Finally, we talk through gear- what worked well, what didn't, and the advantages/disadvantages of different type of materials for an event like this.

LAST but not least- Mark and I both put together gear and nutrition lists of everything we took with us. You'll find all of that and more in the show and in the show notes on this weeks episode!

Am I hungry or is it just a craving?

This week we tackle two questions that came in from listeners of the show. The topic doesn't JUST center around balancing weight either...it also dives into the performance side of things and how appetite can be affected by different volumes of training AND how to handle those.
